I get that the damage output of a flux grenade is higher than the locus nades. However, at each teir, how often do you run into users who have more shield than the damage done by the locus nade?
Standard 400, advanced 500, proto 600?
Even a fully skilled Caldari Logi with stacked complex shield extenders only has 585 shield.
Is there a massive damage reduction against shields that locus nades have? In my experience I have never seen a player hit with my m1 locus and still have shield left. I assume a proto logi would, but nobody else.
I am under the assumption that locus do 100% damage to shields, if so, there is zero reason to use flux other than AV and installations (but even in the former, just use AV nades). Even if locus do 80% to shields (Standard 320, advanced 400, proto 480) This still leaves a very rare occasion that the flux can out damage the locus.
Basically, there is almost no instance where using a flux grenade against an infantry player yeilds more damage than a locus. It can happen, but only on the most shield tanked suits, and only when they are at full health.
Meanwhile, there are PLENTY of instances where the locus gernades gets through shield and damages armor. Also, one of the best uses for locus nades is to finish off folks hiding after taking damage, flux can not do so. It is also good for limiting the range of movement of a player you have already fought to make finishing them off easier. Again, flux is less useful here because you are mainly looking to finish off their armor at this point.
The only use I can see for Flux nades is if you go heavy armor tank and can "suicide" flux nade to weaken shield tanked targets without suffering much damage yourself. But this seems like a strategy that has its own downsides and would be very niche.
TLDR: How come this forum seems to always suggest flux nades when they are almost universally inferior to locus? |

So the bonus is that the flux damage will do enough damage to still fully strip shields at like 4 or 5 meters out, where the locus would not? I suppose I could see that being useful. So essentially, despite having the same radius as locus, the increased damage means it has a larger effective radius. Gotcha.
Still think Im a fan of Locus, but at least i can now see an upside to flux. The damage alone didnt seem usefl to me since the 500 or so damage from a locus will melt almost everyones shields. But Flux has a bigger radius of shield melting capabilities. Good to note.
I use Scrambler Rifles, so flux still makes 0 sense for me to use, but at least now I know why others do. |
